Explore Hidden Waterfalls at Spicewood Valley Trail

This was our first time to hike the Spicewood Valley Trail in Northwest Austin, TX. It was peaceful, calm, and there were small waterfalls that were fun to walk through. The trail is hidden so it takes some searching to find it. You can park your car at Mountain View Park and then across the playground, on the other side of the street, is the entrance to the trail. We like to type in the name of the trail of our iPhone, and then follow the directions to the trail on the phone. Once you enter the trail, there are quite a few steps that go down (it is easier to walk down than come back up!). The address for Spicewood Valley Trail: 10978 Callanish Park Dr, Austin, TX 78750. There are guard rails made out of wood that you can hold onto–make sure to walk slowly because it can be steep. Once you walk down the stairs, then the trail evens out. It is a moderately easy trail to walk, although there are some steps to climb. Make sure to bring extra water and a few snacks in case you get tired. Our favorite views were the waterfalls that are scattered in between. They are small, but are still amazing to enjoy and take some cool pics. We also saw a rock sculpture, an old, upside-down abandoned car, tree-climbers, and a hidden lake. As far as wildlife, we saw about 50 lizards, egrets, birds, hawks, and turtles. The lizards are small, but there were so many of them.

We crossed paths with 3-4 people in total, but everyone was nice and waved “hello.” There are not many people on this trail as it is hidden inside a neighborhood. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the perfect trail for you. It has less people and less traffic noise than trails close to downtown. There were multiple benches that you can use throughout the trail if you need a break. The trail is designed in a way that you have to walk back the way you came. So, on the way back, there is an option to see a hidden lake. You have to climb up some large rocks in order to see the lake. It seems like that is where the trail ends. Pics and videos below!
