  • Wildflowers

There are many opportunities to explore fields of wildflowers, wildflowers in parks, wildflowers in Nature Preserves, and many more in Austin, TX. For us at Travel Stories Music, we love the various benefits of experiencing wildflowers including how they clean the air. Often, there is pollution in the air, however, wildflowers can clean the air, create nitrogen, and provide a sweet-smelling atmosphere. Wildflowers benefit the soil, provide food for wildlife, and help provide joy in communities.

Since cities can be very busy with traffic, noise, and construction sounds, wildflowers provide peace and calm that is essential for our well-being–offering moments of relaxation, reflection, and tranquility. When we experience wildflowers in nature, it gives us a chance to reset and enjoy the present moment.

If you are in Austin, check out McKinney Falls State Park, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Zilker Nature Preserve, or the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. These are wonderful, scenic areas to experience the joy and wonder of wildflowers.

What wildflowers do you enjoy? Have you seen the Prairie Coneflower, White Prickly Poppies, or the Albino Bluebonnet? Let us know in the comments below–we would love to hear your stories.

Thanks. Albert Einstein said, “Logic will get you from point A to Point B, but imagination will take you everywhere.” More travel, stories, and music to come!

That’s a good idea. In the future, we could post the TSM playlist on the blog and people (or subscribers) could download their favorite songs from TSM directly. 🎸

  • Explore Hidden Waterfalls at Spicewood Valley Trail

Spicewood Valley Trail – Hiking Adventures

    Hey, friends!

This was our first time to hike the Spicewood Valley Trail in Northwest Austin, TX. It was peaceful, calm, and there were small waterfalls that were fun to walk through. The trail is hidden so it takes some searching to find it. You can park your car at Mountain View Park and then across the playground, on the other side of the street, is the entrance to the trail. We like to type in the name of the trail of our iPhone, and then follow the directions to the trail on the phone. Once you enter the trail, there are quite a few steps that go down (it is easier to walk down than come back up!). The address for Spicewood Valley Trail: 10978 Callanish Park Dr, Austin, TX 78750. Mountain View Park’s address: 9000 Middlebie Dr, Austin, TX 78750.

There are guard rails made out of wood that you can hold onto–make sure to walk slowly because it can be steep. Once you walk down the stairs, then the trail evens out. It is a moderately easy trail to walk, although there are some steps to climb. Make sure to bring extra water and a few snacks in case you get tired. Our favorite views were the waterfalls that are scattered in between. They are small, but are still amazing to enjoy and take some cool pics. We also saw a rock sculpture, an old, upside-down abandoned car, tree-climbers, and a hidden lake. As far as wildlife, we saw about 50 lizards, egrets, birds, hawks, and turtles. The lizards are small, but there were so many of them.

We crossed paths with 3-4 people in total, but everyone was nice and waved “hello.” There are not many people on this trail as it is hidden inside a neighborhood. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the perfect trail for you. It has less people and less traffic noise than trails close to downtown. There were multiple benches that you can use throughout the trail if you need a break. The trail is designed in a way that you have to walk back the way you came. So, on the way back, there is an option to see a hidden lake. You have to climb up some large rocks in order to see the lake. It seems like that is where the trail ends. Pics and videos below!

We hope you enjoy this trail as much as we did. Happy hiking in Austin, TX! – Travel Stories Music

Take a dip and cool off near the waterfalls.
Waterfall fun and lots of greenery here.
Many trails lead to the waterfalls.
Once you enter the trail, take a left and at the end of the trail is a beautiful, serene lake (requires climbing steep rocks to access lake).
    Let the hiking journey begin!
Alongside the trail, herons are cooling off in the water.

Waterfalls at Spicewood Valley Trail are beautiful and have a calming effect. While hiking the trail, you can see them in the distance and watch the water moving through the rocks.
Waterfalls flow into a small pool.
Reflections on the water create picturesque moments.
